Father's Day Outing

Superboy donned his Father's Day shirt from 2005 (Dad has a matching one!), and we took ourselves to Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks N.M., despite a freak-out courtesy of "moi" (over vicissitudes of getting us ready and actually out the door before the day was over and done) and a forecast of temperatures in the high 90s. How's that for a run-on sentence?

In retrospect, it seems that hiking in the desert at midday in that kind of temperature was perhaps not the wisest thing to do. But even though we changed our minds about trying the longer canyon trail due to the DERN hotness of the day and only walked a short 1.2 mile loop, we found this place awesome. You can find out more about it if'n yer wanner at:

Commemoration

Fresh as daisies, then!

How we feel, now!

But seriously, I'd do it all again. Happy Anniversary to us!

Baa Baa

Last weekend some local farms that raise animals for their wool held a kind of open house, and we met up with B. and his family to check out a few of them. Superboy got to bond with camels, goats, sheep, alpacas, and llamas as well as donkeys, mules, horses and dogs (the last 4 were not raised for fiber--New Mexicans aren't that odd). Supergirl had a great time baa-ing with the sheep--they seemed to understand each other, although I've no idea what they were discussing. We met a professional free-lance shearer, who showed us how the wool goes from fleece (he had WAY more than 3 bags full laying around his garage...more like 50!) to yarn, and got to eat frozen chocolate-dipped bananas and cheesecake. It was pretty fun until the wind picked up and we couldn't see the farms for the dust.

Mei Tai

Well, folks, I did it! And me is very proud of me. Here is Supergirl in her new Mom-made Mei Tai baby carrier. Whew! A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into this one. Now I just have to learn how to use it!

The Mouths of Babes

This morning as I was getting ready for my day, Superboy decided to break it to me:
"Mom?" he says, "Your chin looks like scrambled eggs."
"It does? What do you mean?"
"I mean, it looks like a rose, only a little more unbeautiful."
The truth is finally out, and here it is! The proof is in the pudding.

Yesterday, he brought me a picture "of [me] and Supergirl at the beach" he'd cut from a magazine. Just as he was showing it to me, he stopped mid-sentence and said, "wait...wait...this needs a heart..." My sweetie little boy. Here it is after the adjustment. As you can see, Supergirl is growing fast. And don't I look great in my bathing suit? I've been working on my figure...

Bad Manners

My goodness. What would Judith Martin think of this?

Thankfully, due to Superboy's placecards, we might have just a little bit of class. Maybe there's hope for us, after all.

Gymnasium

The Boy and I checked out a local gym recently, and he got to try all sorts of fun stuff. I really think it's gotten to a point with these two perpetual-motion contraptions I call my children for me to get a faster camera. These are the shots that didn't come out as complete blurs, but he also got to try vaulting off the springboard, jumping on the trampoline, and paddling about the foam pit.

Efficiency

Guess it was gettin' to be too much trouble to reach all the way into the box.

Happy Happy Boy Boy

Would you believe he did the whole kitchen floor for me? Truly, some days it seems my blessings virtually stand up and count themselves.

Uniform

Here is Superboy in full-uniformed glory. It took all I had not to follow him around hugging and smooching him, he looked so adorable, but I did control myself (a little) in the interest of preserving his superhero dignity. He has a flashlight tucked in his right pocket (which you can't see), and a green tube peeking out of his left pocket (which you can). Actually, the green tube is a kaleidoscope my mother gave to me when I was a girl, which tickles me no end. The Boy was using both items for very important things, but I couldn't tell you exactly what.

And the boots--oh, those boots! There was a short run of days last summer, difficult days for both of us, when all hard-won potty training victories paled in the face of a serious slip-up streak. One particular afternoon, after not quite making it in time...again... the Boy was sitting tearfully on the grown-up potty, bare legs dangling and festooned by his damp and dirtied "Cars" briefs, feet ornamented by--those boots. Which just made me love him all the more.
