Little Man
Every now and again I look at Superboy and am struck with how fast the last 5 years have gone by. He's getting to be so grown up! Here he is kicking it with Baby Girl. By the way, I'd been wondering for some time why so many of these photos look a little blurred...and then I noticed the big ol' fingerprint right smack on the lens of the camera (hmmm, can't imagine how that got there). Wonder if that has anything to do with it, or is it just my inept photography?
Helping with the yard work. When I snapped this one, he was chatting affectionately under his breath to the little plants as he gave them a drink of water.
Cool dude heading down the street to check the mailbox. Can you read the T-shirt? (you can click on the photo to enlarge) Funny thing is, I don't think I ever would have paid money for this shirt (well, maybe 50 cents), but we received it for nothing from a fellow freecycler, and for free, I seem to find it hilarious. It makes me laugh every time he wears it.

Guitar Moves
These are from a concert given for a private audience (Supergirl and myself) last Friday afternoon. Superboy was looking over my shoulder as I uploaded these from the camera to the computer, so I said, "Hey, here're your guitar pictures. They turned out pretty well." To which he replied, "Yeah, I know my guitar moves!" Seemingly, he does.
Now this one is Gene Simmons all the way (okay, minus the tongue). Where on earth did he pick this up?

Pleased As Punch
Superboy disappeared into his room the other day for about half an hour...which is highly unusual. For the most part, he prefers the company of others and tends to stick close to me or A. throughout the day. I wondered what he was up to. I kept hearing noises and found myself fantasizing about him picking up his belongings on his own initiative. Hah! Me so funny.
He wasn't doing that. But he emerged to announce proudly that he had "reorganized" his treasured train table. Of course I went to look, and indeed he had! I was pretty impressed, and told him so. Doesn't Spidey's head look like it's riding on the yellow car?

Camera-Shy?
The two of them were sitting so nicely together, snuggled in on Daddy's lap...they looked so comfy, so cute, and then, as if by some silent agreement, they both turned their heads into A.'s chest, like celebrities avoiding the paparazzi. I caught one shot before the Girl turned away (it was only because she was making a play for the camera--can you see the blur of her swift-as-lightning grabbing left arm?) A. tried to turn Boris' face back towards me, to no avail. The Girl's reaction to all of my theatrical antics in attempt to get her to pose nicely was to look at me as if I was some crazy kook. Which I probably am.

S. D.
(Which stands for "Sunny Days" or "Sleep Deprivation", depending on whether I'm seeing the glass as half-full or half-empty). The Girl is still nursing every 2-3 hours around the clock, and lately has been experimenting with other forms of inappropriate wakefulness, much to the delight of the rest of the family! She's not much worse for the wear (she gets to nap), but we three are a little grumpier and groggier than we'd like most days. Still, we made it to the Biopark last Saturday to visit our familiar friends at the Aquarium (Pufferfish, the lobsters, Googly-Teeth Shark...) and picnic on the lawn of the Botanical Gardens. We had a lovely time!

He Got Mail!
It sure has been a good couple of weeks for Superboy as far as mail is concerned! In addition to the package from Grandpa J. and Grandma S. (see earlier post), he received a long and wonderful letter accompanied by photos from Grandpa S. and Grandma C.
He was inspired to pen a response, replete with illustrations, but was compelled to study his subject matter carefully beforehand. Here he is systematically placing his hands on all of Boris' various parts, as if to absorb the image into his fingers. Somewhat amazingly, Boris has become a remarkably patient and tolerant animal in his golden years.
Thus prepared, he feels ready to begin his work.
The envelope from Grandma L. and Grandpa D. had a super-impressive array of stamps on it--I mean, really! And some way-cool activity books and a nice note inside.
What a lucky, happy boy! He sure did enjoy receiving these things and has talked for days about how much he hopes he will see everyone soon.

Wild Kingdom
The local wildlife is very much taken with the Boy's electronic drum pad, sent to him by his great-grandmother a couple of years ago. It is not always easy to photographically capture this species in action, as it has a profound and seemingly instinctual tendency to lunge for any visible camera, but this female specimen is so focused here on her drumming that the photographer goes completely unnoticed.

A change in the camera angle brings the photographer into her field of vision while she is performing the rarely-documented drumstick lubrication ritual.
The camera has been spotted and is removed from the vicinity for its own protection. Just in time! Please join us again for another exhilarating episode of Mutual of Homealot's "Wild Kingdom".

Mmm Mmm Good
Well, we'd been trying to tempt the Girl with solid food since December, but her lack of desire to actually eat it was perplexing. She would exhibit extreme grabby interest in everyone else's food. She would watch us eat. She would reach for our food and smack her little baby lips. But every time we managed to deposit something into her mouth, she'd act as if we were trying to poison her. She'd gag, grimace, and generally make her protest very well-known. However, there's been a sea change in the last day or two, and now FOOD is her new best FRIEND--on one condition: we do not feed her, she gets to feed herself.
Last night, she spent the beginning of dinner shoveling pureed carrots and prunes into her mouth, stopping to chortle with glee every few seconds. I ran for the video camera A. received as a birthday gift from his mother, but--you guessed it--dead battery. Drat!
