Boy of Steel

Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful than a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound! ("Look! Up in the sky!" "It's a bird!" "It's a plane!" "It's Superman!")... Yes, it's Superman ... strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men! Superman ... who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands, and who, disguised as a (mostly) mild-mannered preschooler in an arid southwestern town, fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way!

(This is the solution to the Mystery Challenge of August 7th, of course. I know you've all been on the edge of your seats!)

And the Burritos Go To...

Grandma S., my dear friend, R.B., and their brilliant powers of deduction. Come 'n' get 'em!

Blog

Here's the Girl trying to interfere while Superboy is checking himself out on the blog. Maybe I should post a picture of him looking at a picture on the blog of himself looking at a picture of himself on the blog. Ooff. Musn't make the poor little brain cells work that hard...

Mystery Challenge!

Okay, ladies and gentlemen--a project is in the works, commissioned by a certain young person. I think I can do it with a couple of old T-shirts and a holey cotton jersey bedsheet I got for free. If you can guess what it is before I post the completed project (however it turns out!), I'll buy you a Garcia's burrito with chile and cheese over--your choice of filling! The only catch is, you'd have to come here to pick it up...

Goggles

Standing On The Corner...

...watching all the boys go by...

What she was watching:

And I thought I wouldn't have to worry about him driving until he was at least 16...uh, 18...no, how about 35?

Sharing Traditions

The Boy and I have been doing backyard picnics since he was a wee one, although I'll admit we do far, far fewer since moving here. Too sunny! I know, I know, I was the one down in the dumps about the 9-month sog-fest where we used to live. But the sun here is quite brutal and intolerant of anything but our deepest respect. Plus our backyard is 75% rock and concrete and nearly completely devoid of natural shade. Still, we do try from time to time. The last time, the Boy thought it was high time we tried to include the Girl, and so we did.

Hey, you food-stealer! Where's your sense of boundaries?

Stuffing it in as fast as possible while her back is turned.

Easy Reader, Is That His Name?

Seems like Superboy has known his letters and their sounds forever, but he wasn't much interested in using them for reading. He had great fun learning to write them, and we read together all the time, but the idea of reading himself just wasn't much of a draw. No worries; seriously, no reason to push that at his age, right? But lately his interest has been growing by leaps and bounds. Now he reads to little sister. Here they are looking at an "I Spy" book Grandpa S. gave to the Boy on his second birthday. What a lucky girl! She sure loves her big brother.

Leavetaking

The kids enjoyed a week-long visit by Grandpa D. and Grandma L. They had a wonderful time and were very sad to see the grandparents go.
